Firm Philosophy

Our firm’s philosophy is to offer more than simply the knowledge of a seasoned lawyer. We add value by becoming an integral part of each client’s business team. We understand our clients’ business goals and expectations; we know where each transaction fits into their overall business plan; and we craft creative, unique solutions to overcome obstacles necessary to complete the deal.

Our philosophy determines which assignments we will undertake; how we approach our work; the advice and counsel we provide; and our activities within the community. Our firm’s philosophy revolves around five simple constants:

Understand the client’s business

Before diving into the legal intricacies of a project, we first learn two things: How will the project affect our client’s business and just what are the objectives we were hired to achieve?

We are very good listeners. During our first conversation our clients do most of the talking. Our guiding questions are simple and few: What do you wish to accomplish? What is important to you? What is your ideal successful outcome? How will this deal affect your overall business? What can I do to implement the plan successfully?

Don’t kill the deal

Our job is to close the deal under the terms each client wants. It is not to object, negotiate or argue just to impress or justify billable hours. This orientation gives us an advantage. Where others may quit when their demands cannot be met, we dig in to overcome obstacles to achieve our clients’ goals.

Our clients decide which deals they want and under what terms–not us. We evaluate options and advise on the best course of action. Once a decision is made by our clients, our mission is to implement it successfully.

Begin and end with the big picture

Ours is a holistic approach where each deal is a cog in the much larger wheel defined by the overall business. Our deep understanding of a client’s operation ensures we have all the facts. This big picture approach often uncovers an alternate resolution to issues that would prove insurmountable to others who lack our familiarity with the business.

Practice cost containment

As part of our clients’ business team, we are always aware of the impact of legal fees on the feasibility and ultimate success of a project. As a boutique firm, we minimize overhead by not maintaining a large full time staff; rather we engage specialists as needed for a particular project.

Find the unique solution

It’s true that there are many ways to close a real estate deal. But there is only one solution that achieves a set of prescribed goals for any given deal. That is the solution we search for in every assignment. This golden key may reside under any number of other variables. But it’s there. We uncover it and make it work in our client’s favor.

Finding the unique solution is rarely easy. It comes only to those who have seen countless similar transactions and possess a deep familiarity with the details on which they turn. The Law Offices of Trudi J. Lesser has such experience.
